Hootenanies

September 13, 2017

In my family, breakfast was always the most important meal of the day. My mom always made sure we left for school with full bellies (at least until we got to high school and then it was are choice if we were gonna wake up in time for breakfast). There were two meals that would always get me out of bed because I could smell them cooking. Crepes (recipe coming later!) and Hootenanies! I mean, who would sleep through something that looked as good as this...

Your probably thinking, who are these crazy people that call these German/Puffy pancakes a word that you probably think doesn't exist. When I made them for my husband for the first time and proclaimed what I had made he looked at me like I was crazy. I promise that the word Hootenanny is real. It is a Scottish word that means party or celebration (ya learn something new everyday and your welcome for giving you a new word to use!) and perhaps that is why we call them that. Our Scottish blood runs deep in our family and we sure know how to party. Or maybe my family called them that because it always got us to the table to have a meal together. Seriously these are a favorite of all ages. My kids love them and I love turning on the oven light so that they watch the magic happen. They are one of the greatest and easiest breakfasts to make.

I also love breakfasts that "blank canvasses". My husband will only put butter on them, I love them with syrup, powdered sugar and strawberries as pictured below, and my kids love them with just about anything. So give these a try and I promise there will be a "Hootenanny" at your table.

Recipe

-1/2 cp Butter
-1 cp milk
-1 cp Flour
-6 Eggs
-1/2 tsp Salt

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Put butter in 9X13 pan and melt in the oven while oven is preheating. While the butter is melting in the oven mix all other ingredients together. Once the butter is completely melted pour the mix into the hot butter and bake for 17 min. DO NOT OPEN THE OVEN WHILE HOOTENANIES ARE COOKING. This will "deflate" the sides.

Pull out of the oven and enjoy!

Additional Toppings if desired:

-Syrup
-Powdered Sugar
-Any Fruit
-Peanut Butter
-Nutella
