Dried Spice Apples

October 15, 2017

Its beginning to feel a lot like fall here in the Midwest and i'm loving every minute of it. Nothing says fall to me more than a brisk day and the smell of cinnamon and nutmeg. I was first introduced to dried apple slices from my Our Best Bites 400 calories or Less Cookbook. Our family quickly became big fans and started experimenting with different spices and flavors. Our favorite by far has been this Dried Spice recipe. We combine cinnamon and nutmeg on our apples to combine for a delicious fall flavor.

Start by slicing your apples. I would recommend using a Mandolin not only for your apple slices but for most of your veggies and fruits. It is a fun and effective way to get even thin slices. We have owned this mandolin for a few years and have loved it. You don't have to get a super expensive one to get the same result and that's why we love it. Layer your apple slices on a lined baking sheet. Make sure your apples don't overlap. They can touch, they just can't overlap. Sprinkle with Cinnamon and Nutmeg and bake for 7 hours on 170°. Your home will smell divine! You can find a printable version of the recipe HERE.
